Galaxy Kid _ Into the Galaxy, Volume 1

This is the first in a series of mixes that explore well... the galaxy. Of course I'm referring to the musical galaxy. As Galaxy Kid, I try to bring a lot to the table. Anything goes. As long as I'm feeling it. Lately I've been into disco, old and new. There wasn't a lot of preparation for this mix. I just bought a new laptop and installed Ableton on it and just grabbed some tunes that were already on my thumb drive. This is the result. (It's not mastered by any means so if the volume levels track to track change, my deepest apologies) I haven't been loving DJing too much lately and it was nice to be able to not worry about getting people in the door of a club and make sure they're dancing and drinking and happy so that the bar staff would be happy with me. I was able to just worry about what gets me moving in my rolly chair. Which believe me, I was. Stay tuned for Volume 2 which will undoubtedly be slow and sexy. Enjoy.

Mistabishi _ Printer Jam

Mistabishi - Printer Jam from Hospital Records on Vimeo.

Hey sorry I've been gone for so long. Been really busy. I'll try to be on here more. I miss sharing things with what little people actually read/read (reed/red) this thing. I'll be sure to talk more about what I've been up to later. And this thing needs a new look don't you think?

Anyway, here's a video from a Drum & Bass artist!?!?! D&B has been dead to me for a LONG time (since about 2002) but this track is HOT! I don't care who you are. The video is super sweet too! Check it out.

New England Ruins _ Rob Dobi, photographer

I'm very picky about photography. As a designer, it's hard for me to look at things that already exist naturally and say "hmm that would make a good photo" I guess I like to rearrange. organize or even stage elements. That's not to say I don't respect photography, on the contrary, I have the utmost respect for it because I can't do it. I understand it, I just don't feel I can do the media justice I suppose. This site was sent to me by an old friend who thought I'd enjoy it. In response to his instant message I said this:
if i was a photographer this is exactly the kind of photography i'd take. even the photos i've dabbled in where all compositions of architecture and corridors and the like. and i have always been fascinated by abandoned places. so many stories. thanks for sharing this site. i'll probably blog about it.
So that being said, please enjoy these photos. I find them creepy, awe inspiring, and composed extremely well. Enjoy!

I Met The Walrus

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon's boundless wit, and timeless message.

White Williams _ smoke

So yesterday I was talking to my pal over at Books And Blood about Kid606 and his label Tigerbeat6. (Check out his latest blog for why.) He then asked me if I had ever heard of White Williams; who, late last year, put a few releases out on Tigerbeat6. I said "No I haven't. Should I have?" He replies "I don't know, I haven't heard them either." As it turns out, White Williams is pretty darn good! Not what I'd expect from Tigerbeat6, but quite a nice find indeed. Here's their/his single from the Smoke full-length entitled "New Violence" and a cover of "I Want Candy" made famous in the 80s by Malcolm McLaren protégé, Bow Wow Wow, which for some reason brings to mind The Jesus & Mary Chain. No idea why. Enjoi.

Kyle Cannon _ endless elements

So my good pal Kyle Cannon (forever-awesome.blogspot.com) sent me this mix quite some time ago. I believe it was while I was in finals week actually. I had lots to do so I just decided to put it on in the background of whatever I was doing (pretty sure I was doing my report on IKEA actually) and I eventually found myself just staring off into space with my mouth gaped open in awe of how great this mix was. It's a short one but that just gives it more of a "good track to length" ratio... or something. Enjoi!

AERO 007 _ DJ Holva "biopolitical reproductions"

Holva's reproduction of a myriad of artists' voices seperates this mix from the status quo.
